How to handle jealousy when someone else loses weight [Episode 57]

Uncategorized Jan 06, 2020

Happy new year! While a new decade can be an exciting time and feel like a fresh start, it's also "diet season". Everyone and their brother is doing some sort of diet. If you're trying to lose weight, it can be really difficult to watch the people around you lose weight, even if they're doing crazy fad diets or unsustainable methods.

8 Steps to handle someone's "success" (read: unsustainable weight loss) when you're doing it the slow, steady, sustainable way:

1. Understand what success with weight loss looks like to you.

2. Get clear on your own why.

3. Get clear on what you want out of your journey.

4. Filter your input - who you're following online can make a big difference, and maybe setting some strict boundaries with your friends/family IRL if it's a problem.

5. Remember the fad dieting process is always the same.

unhappiness > decision to go HAM > fad diet > weight loss > pissed because you're missing out on life > cheating > guilt...

New Year Challenge - DAY 1!

Today’s focus is on forgiving ourselves for anything with our health we’re feeling guilty about, and forging ahead with intention.

Today’s homework

Answer the following:
1. What do I want my health to look like in a year? Think all areas - exercise, fruit/veggie intake, water, sleep, movement, relationship to food/your body/the process. Really brainstorm here!

2. For each category, list the steps to get from where you are to where you want to be. I.e exercising 5 days is the goal and I’m currently doing 1, I’d list out: exercise 2 days, exercise 3 days, exercise 4 days, exercise 5 days.

3. Look at your list and pick an easy win. You should have a win in the first two weeks of the year.

See you tomorrow! xo

2020 is here! Among the fad diets and juice cleanses that are popular in the beginning of the year, there are some of us who skip those fad diets and do something we feel is less drastic. Not cutting out solid food or exercising for hours on end, but just, ya know, get back to a healthy lifestyle. In theory, this is amazing. It sounds like a foolproof plan, especially if we were living mostly healthy lifestyles before the holidays hit.

What we don’t consider is the mental impact of telling ourselves “NO” on all our favorite, not-so-healthy treats and no longer skipping workouts after...

What a balanced holiday looks like [Episode 55]

Uncategorized Dec 23, 2019
What does a balanced holiday actually look like?

I talk so much about balance over the holidays, I think it's time I share my own balanced holiday experience from Thanksgiving!

This year, we had two Thanksgivings and the option for twice the food. We traveled 2.5 hours to get to our Thanksgivings, so we didn't just come home afterwards. Here's what my Thursday/Friday looked like:

Thursday:
Up early to teach a Pure Barre Intensive. I planned to workout, but by the time I got home, ready and packed it was time to leave, so no workout. Sat in the car for a few hours. Grabbed some yogurt and protein muffins right before we left then hopped in the car and hit the road! I was pretty hungry when we got to our first Thanksgiving, so I took a lot of turkey, put a moderate amount of mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries and roll in front of me. After my meal I was thinking about the wine I brought, so I poured a glass of wine. When it was time for pie (I love pie) I wasn't...

How to meal prep like a pro [Episode 36]

Welcome back to the Balanced Body Blog! I'm Corin Groustra - holistic health coach, podcaster and blogger helping you live a life you love!

A healthy lifestyle can take so much work sometimes, and feel like such a series of tough decisions. The best way to take some of the legwork and tough decisions out of the equation is to plan ahead. The more you plan ahead, the better off you will be. I always use the example of my four year old brain to my adult brain - my adult brain is the brain that makes good choices and thinks logically. If I make a choice ahead of time, I do it with my adult brain. If I leave things up to my "in the moment" self (my four year old self) I almost always make poor choices. My four year old self loves sugar, naps and to play all day when I really should be working. For example, today my four year old self grabbed a donut cookie (literally just a normal cookie shaped and frosted like a donut) before thinking and I have a raging headache now. My...

The sneaky problem with waiting until Monday... [episode 54]

Uncategorized Dec 02, 2019

Did you overdo it for Thanksgiving? I’ve got you.

It’s Monday, and this past weekend was Thanksgiving. If you’re feeling like it’s no big deal and you can move on with your life, congrats! This post isn’t for you. This post is for the person that feels like they’ve “wrecked their weekend” and should just wait until Monday to “get back on track”. This is for the person that feels compelled by the ads to “detox” and “fast” after your big thanksgiving meal. Let’s get right to the point:

You haven’t wrecked anything.

You don’t need to detox, fast, or juice the rest of the weekend to “make up for it”.

What you do need to do?

  • Recognize that YOU are driving the train.
  • Recognize that “Monday” is arbitrary. Today is Friday. Who decided we need to wait THREE ENTIRE DAYS before “getting back on it”?  If you think about it Friday or...
